We have 2 Contingents of 12 crews each.  Each crew will consist of 8 members and Northern Tier requires the number of youth are to be in majority.  All crews will go to the Charles L Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base Ely, Minnesota.  Travel will be by bus, which is approximately 20 hour trip.  Each crew will have the choice of staying in the US (Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness) or Canada (Quetico Provincial Park).  You don’t have to decide now if your unit is staying in BWCAW or Quetico now.  All crews will be doing a 9 day voyage which consist of 8 days and 7 nights on the water.

Contingent I will depart the Council office on June 30th ~ 5:00 pm and arrive NT 1:00 pm on July 1st.  On July 1st you will prepare for hitting the water on July 2nd.  You will come off the water on July 9th and depart for home July 10th arriving the Council office the morning of July 11th.
 
Contingent II will depart the Council office on July 9th ~ 12:00 pm and arrive NT ~ 9:00 am on July 10th.  On July 10th you will prepare for hitting the water on July 11th.  You will come off the water on July 18th and depart for home July 19th arriving the Council office the morning of July 20th.
 
For the folks who are not familiar with Canoeing in the north country there are several fees for either park and currency exchange for Canada.  The price per person is subject to change due to the variables.
 
The price per person below includes transportation, fees for either park, Northern Tier basic fee and all meals at base camp. 
 
The price below does NOT include food while traveling (4 meals), maps, crew photos, lightweight canoes and fishing license. 
 
The charge for crews staying in the US (BWCAW) is $900 per person ($7200 crew) and crews staying Canada (Quetico) is $1000 per person ($8000 crew).  Fees are subject to change.

 WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE NORTHERN TIER BASIC FEE?

Northern Tier offers full outfitting. The following items are included with your basic Northern Tier fees:
Staff Member – Trained Northern Tier Interpreter accompanies you on your expedition.
Emergency Radio or Satellite Phone.
Canoes – Alumacraft and Grumman 17 foot alumi­num canoes. Lightweight canoes available for an additional fee.
Paddles - Carlisle Paddles (one per person).
PFD (life vest) - Stearns type III (one per person).
Tents - (two and four person available) Eureka Tim­berline Outfitter or Alps Dome Style Outfitter mod­els.
Personal Gear Packs – Granite Gear or Ostrum 6,000 cu. inch model with hipbelt and heavy-duty plastic liner (one per three people).
Food/Equipment Packs – Kondos Outdoors brand with hipbelt and plastic liner box.
Stoves – At the Charles L. Sommers Wilderness Ca­noe Base, Coleman Peak I, two per crew. Fuel is provided by Northern Tier.
Tarps – Kondos rip-stop nylon 10’x12’ (one per crew).
Cooking Gear – Pots, trail ovens, utensil kit, clean­ing supplies.
Ropes for Hanging Food.
Food – The finest trail food available. You will re­ceive a combination of dried ingredients and foil- packed meats (MRE’s) or freeze-dried meat along with fresh food for your first day. You will also have the opportunity to prepare baked desserts.
Amenities at the Base – Shower, sauna, parking, a locker for your personal gear, cabins for two nights, four meals on base.
Voyageur Rendezvous or Closing Activity.
Special Participant Emblem.
Camper’s Accident Insurance – Covers trip and travel to and from the bases. This policy is second­ary to a family policy. Name and policy number of the family policy should be noted on the Health His­tory form. A BSA Camper’s Accident and Sickness Insurance pamphlet is on our website.
